Habitat: The species is mainly found in agricultural areas and adjacent forest edges.

Appearance: The monk parakeet, originally from Argentina and southern Brazil, has successfully established itself as an exotic species in both Europe and North America.

Breeding season: From April to July in the wild, breeding in large communal nests and sometimes also in Magpie nests, 5-12 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 29 cm, wingspan 48 cm, weight 125 grams, age 8 years (not older in the wild, 20 to 30 years in captivity).

Food: In their natural habitat, the diet of the monk parakeet consists mainly of flower buds, young leaves, tree bark, berries and seeds. During the breeding season, they supplement this with caterpillars and small insects.
