Habitat: The meadow pipit occurs in almost all types of meadows, but also in heathlands, clearings and some fields. During migration, it also occurs on rough land, pastures and stubble fields, but almost always near water. There is a clear preference for moist polder meadows and heathlands.

Appearance: In Europe, it is a common and widespread breeding bird and winter visitor. Resident in north-western Europe. In Belgium and the Netherlands, it is a numerous breeding bird, year-round resident, migrant and winter visitor in fairly large numbers.

Breeding season: April to August, nest on the ground. The nest is a sloppy structure made of blades of grass and moss, built immediately after returning from wintering grounds. It is usually located under overhanging grass, but sometimes under stones. 4 to 6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 15 cm, wingspan 20 – 25 cm, weight 16 – 20 grams, age 8 years.

Food: Small animals and seeds.
