Habitat: Breeds in high marshes, tundra and northern fringes. In winter along the coast.
Appearance: Breeds in northern Europe, migratory elsewhere, winters locally in Spain and Portugal.
Breeding season: From May to mid-June, nest on the ground, both parents incubate 4 eggs.
Characteristics: Length 37-45 cm, wingspan 79-88 cm, weight 270-450 grams, age 10 to 15 years.
Food: Crustaceans, crayfish, worms, insects, etc. and some plant food.
