Habitat: In gardens, warm open sandy areas, dunes and along forest edges.

Appearance: A moth from Southern and Central Europe that has been on the rise since 2006 and is now common in Flanders and spreading in the Netherlands. It is a migratory moth that benefits from climate change.

Flying time: Two generations, May–June and September–October.

Characteristics: Wingspan 27–30 mm.

Life cycle: The host plants are various herbaceous plants. The young caterpillars live in the seed pods, older caterpillars forage on the host plant at night and hide on the ground during the day. The species overwinters as a pupa in a cocoon in the ground. The moths are attracted to light.
