Habitat: The Grey Wagtail breeds along most streams and rivers, except in some heavily polluted areas or where the banks are too steep or have been straightened too much. It prefers streams with old stone bridges, rocks, old mills or other structures along the banks where it can build its nest. Some pairs settle either at the water’s edge or in a section of water within their territory. In suitable habitats, densities are high, but the species is less common on most slow-flowing rivers, canals and water bodies.

Appearance: In Europe always found near water. In Belgium and the Netherlands very scarce to scarce breeding bird – year bird – migrant – passage migrant and winter visitor in very small to small numbers.

Breeding season: March – July, nest near water, 4 – 6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 17 – 21 cm, wingspan 25 – 27 cm, weight 14.5 – 22 grams, age 8 years.

Food: Small animals.
