Corduliidae (striped emeralds):  Ten species are found in north-western Europe. These are medium-sized dragonflies that owe their name to their metallic or blackish-green body and their shiny green to blue-green eyes. One exception is the Two-spotted Dragonfly, which resembles a corn borer. They rarely alight. Males fly constantly around the territory they occupy. Females are harder to spot and lay their eggs alone, lightly tapping the water’s surface with their ovipositor.
