Habitat: Both goldcrests occur together in the same populations, in densities that can be very similar. The general description of the habitat is the same as for the Goldcrest. In general, the Firecrest prefers mixed forests and parks with conifers.

Appearance: In Europe, a widespread resident bird in the south and west, summer visitor in the north and east. In Belgium and the Netherlands, a fairly scarce breeding bird – year bird migratory – passage migrant in fairly small numbers – winter visitor in small numbers.

Breeding season: April – August, nest in coniferous trees, 7 – 10 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 9 – 10 cm, wingspan 13 – 16 cm, weight 4.9 – 7.8 grams, age 9 years.

Food: Small insects and spiders.
