Habitat: The typical habitat consists of an association of open spaces with tall herbaceous vegetation and a few solitary trees of varying heights. Trees, even if not very tall, are essential as singing posts or lookout points. Areas with low vegetation and bare ground are suitable for foraging and nesting. It is most numerous where copses, woods and heathland appear in succession. It is found on the edges, in clearings and clearings (even if they are rather small) in all types of forest, but also in uncultivated areas, sites with scattered woodlots, young plantations, small copses and rows of trees, hedgerow-enclosed meadows, heathland, moors, sometimes in parks and orchards near fields, meadows and fallow land, and on embankments with herbaceous vegetation provided that a few large shrubs appear.

Appearance: In Europe, summer visitor in open forests, in Belgium and the Netherlands numerous breeding bird – migratory – passage migrant in large numbers.

Breeding season: April – August, nest on the ground, 3 – 6 eggs.
