Habitat: Cliffs, islands, roofs of buildings along the coast. Also inland marshes and dunes. Winters mainly along the coast, inland on rubbish dumps and drinking water reservoirs. Adapts everywhere and is increasing in numbers.

Appearance: Common and widespread gull of northern and western Europe. Numerous breeding bird, resident and winter visitor.

Breeding season: April to August, nests are located on low islands in a coastal complex with salt marshes, channels, pools and salt flats, all separated from the beach by a narrow belt of dunes. 2-3 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 54 – 60 cm, wingspan 138 – 145 cm, weight 900 – 1440 grams, age 30 years.

Food: Versatile, vertebrates to waste.
