Habitat: Heathland, moors, beaches and dunes. Mainly open, sparsely vegetated areas with sandy patches and, as a migrant, everywhere in open areas.

Appearance: In Belgium and the Netherlands, a very rare to rare breeding bird – migratory – migrant in large numbers. In Europe, a widespread summer visitor in open landscapes.

Breeding season: May – August, nest on the ground, 4 – 6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 15 – 16 cm, wingspan 29 cm, weight 20 – 30 grams, age 8 years.

Food: Small animals and berries.
