Habitat: The Bearded Reedling occurs in extensive, dense reed beds with old reeds. Other plants may also appear in these reed beds.

Appearance: In Europe, a very local resident bird in reed beds, living in groups throughout all seasons. In Belgium and the Netherlands, a fairly scarce breeding bird – year bird – winter visitor in fairly small numbers.

Breeding season: April to August, nest low in dense vegetation, 4 to 6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 14 to 16 cm, wingspan 16 to 18 cm, weight 12.5 to 19 grams, lifespan 6 years.

Food: Insects, snails, in winter mainly seeds, especially from reeds and cattails.
