Habitat: The Banded Darter seems to prefer undulating terrain, which may be related to seepage conditions. In the west, it is found near slow-flowing water, such as marshy drainage ditches and irrigation channels. It also frequents streams, silted-up pools and marshy areas, often with seepage. It rarely flies over open water.

Flying season: July to September.
