Habitat: Mainly on sandy terrain such as dune areas, the edges of drifting sand and dry heathland, but also on railway tracks, coal tips and river beaches.

Appearance: Found throughout almost all of Europe, with a range stretching from Morocco and Portugal to Mongolia. The northernmost point is in Latvia and the southernmost point is near Moscow. In Belgium and the Netherlands, it is fairly common in coastal dunes.

Activity: June to November

Characteristics: length ♂︎ 13 – 23 mm, length ♀︎ 20 – 29 mm

Food: Mainly grasses and herbs.
