Habitat: Usually found in large numbers in sunny locations such as dry meadows and grasslands.

Distribution: Widely distributed in Europe, Africa and Asia. The species is fairly common in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Flying time: April to September, two overlapping generations.

Characteristics: Wingspan 15 – 18 mm.

Life cycle: Host plants are various types of mint (Mentha), including Catmint (Nepeta cataria) and Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), etc. The second-generation caterpillars overwinter on these plants and then pupate in a cocoon in the ground. Although they are moths, they fly mainly during the day, often in the sun, and are also attracted to light.
