Habitat: Open, low scrubland and in garrigue (a dry Mediterranean landscape type in southern France) on mountain slopes, in herbaceous vegetation on dry heathland or salt flats.

Appearance: Summer visitor to islands in the western Mediterranean; resident in Cyprus. Recorded in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Breeding season: April to June. Nest in low scrub. Both parents incubate. 4–6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 12–13 cm, wingspan 18–20 cm, weight 8–13 g, lifespan 2–5 years.

Food: Mainly small insects and larvae.
