Habitat: Found in damp grasslands, hedgerows, birch forests, country estates and suburbs with berry-bearing shrubs, often in colonies.

Appearance: In Europe, summer visitor in the north, winter visitor elsewhere. In Belgium and the Netherlands, migrant and winter visitor in fairly large to large numbers.

Breeding season: May – July, nest in bushes or on the ground, 5 – 6 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 19 – 23 cm, wingspan 33 – 34.5 cm, weight 47 – 80 grams, age 11 years.

Food: Earthworms, insects, berries, fruit.
