Habitat: The habitat of the Garden Warbler often resembles that of the Blackcap, although the species is not as common. Its preferred habitat consists of shrubby vegetation with some trees, such as that found in old parks, on roadsides, on densely overgrown wasteland, in young plantations, in deciduous or mixed stands that allow sufficient light to pass through and have abundant undergrowth, or along forest edges. It avoids tall stands in favour of young stands rich in shrubs and between two and five metres high.

Appearance: Widespread summer visitor in hedges and shrubs throughout Europe. In Belgium and the Netherlands, numerous to very numerous breeding bird – migratory – passage migrant in fairly small numbers.

Breeding season: May – August, nest in shrubs, 4 – 5 eggs.

Characteristics: Length 13 – 14.5 cm, wingspan 20 – 24 cm, weight 15 – 24 grams, age 14 years.

Food: Insects and spiders. In autumn often berries and some seeds.
